ClubFoot: What it is and Its History
Pediatric clubfoot, also often called congenital talipes equinovarus, is a foot deformity that occurs in newborns. There are approximately 200,000 babies born with clubfoot each year. Clubfoot may occur as an isolated deformity, or in association with other conditions such as spina bifida. Congenital clubfoot can also occur in one foot, but more commonly presents in both feet. In clubfoot, the foot is twisted inward, with the heel pointing downward. This deformity may be treated through manipulation of the foot soon after birth. One of the most widely used treatment methods is the Ponseti method.
